Sola Scriptura – Scripture Alone

  1. Sola Scriptura: The Authority of Scripture.
    1. Sola Scriptura means that only Scripture, because God is its author, is our inerrant, sufficient, and final authority for the church (the family of God) and our lives.
  2. The Inspiration of Scripture: Breathed out by God.
    1. "All Scripture is inspired by God." (2 Timothy 3:16a)
    2. "No prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." (2 Peter 1:21)
  3. The Inerrancy of Scripture: God cannot lie.
    1. The inerrancy of Scripture means that Scripture, in its original autographs, does not contain or affirm anything that is contrary to fact or truth.
    2. This simply means that the Bible always tells the truth and that it always tells the truth concerning everything it talks about.
    3. Titus 1:2
    4. Hebrews 6:18
  4. The Sufficiency of Scripture: The Bible is enough for us.
    1. Means that Scripture contains all the words of God (OT & NT) we need for salvation, for trusting Him wholly, for obeying Him entirely, and for seeing and understanding life through His eyes rightly.
    2. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  5. The Authority of Scripture: God has spoken.
    1. Scripture alone, because it is God's inspired, inerrant, and sufficient Word, is our ultimate and final authority on any and every issue or topic it speaks to.
  6. Conclusion.
    1. Sola Scriptura is the authority that will have the final say over everything in the cosmos.
